Allah is the Arabic word used to refer to God Almighty. God Almighty is:

The Only one worthy of our Worship

The Only one worthy to be Obeyed

The Only Creator

The Only Commander

The Only Law Maker

Allah created us all only for the sole purpose to Worship him alone. Therefore we must believe he is the only one worthy to be worshipped, followed & obeyed. We worship him by submitting to his commands & laws. If you consider anyone else worthy of these attributes or share with God then you have associated partners with God. The association of partners (shirk) with God is indeed the Greatest crime which God does not forgive and its penalty is the Hellfire forever.

"Verily, Allah forgives not the sin of setting up partners in worship with Him, but He forgives whom He wills sins other than that. And whoever sets up partners in worship with Allah, has indeed strayed far from the path." (An-Nisa 4:116)

"Behold, Luqman said to his son by way of instruction: 'O my son! join not in worship (others) with Allah. for false worship is indeed the highest wrong-doing.'" (Luqman 31:13)

Obedience is a form of worship and we must only obey our Creator. God Almighty has sent down for us commands & laws via the Messengers he sent like Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus & the last Messenger of God, Muhammad (ﷺ).

NO man, woman, king, queen, group or parliament of people has the right to make laws for mankind. Surely the Creator has the only right to command his creation and he knows what is best for his creation.

Indeed, your Lord is Allah , who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne. He covers the night with the day, [another night] chasing it rapidly; and [He created] the sun, the moon, and the stars, subjected by His command. Unquestionably, His is the Creation and the Command; blessed is Allah , Lord of the worlds (Al-A'raf 7:54)

“Verily the absolute right of legislating is for none but Allah (SWT)” (Yusuf 12:40)

‘And He made none share in his decision or rule’  (Al-Kahf 18:26)

If anyone believes they have a right to make the laws as to what should be legal & illegal, they have disbelieved in Allah and committed the greatest crime of Shirk (associating partners with God). And those who believe other besides God have the right to make laws for the people, they have taken them for Worship and equally guilty of committing Shirk.

There is none worthy to be Worshipped, Followed or Obeyed, except Allah & Muhammad is his Messenger. Islam is the only way of life acceptable to God.
